What does “DPK” Stand for?

My name is Dawn Papandrea-Khan (yeah I know, what a long name right?)  LOL  Well, I decided to keep my maiden name when I got married put both names together.  I couldn’t stand the idea of having a two syllable name “Dawn Khan” so I did the hyphenated name thing.  That is what “DPK” stands for (the initials of my crazy long name).  :)


The Boring About Page Stuff

For the longest time I had one of those generic “bio pages” that said all the normal boring things that a bio page should say and I wound up getting sick of it.  It wasn’t really ME.  So instead of saying things like…

  • We are dedicated & committed
  • We are willing to do whatever it takes to get the job done
  • We offer one on one customer service
  • We are punctual and responsive


Who We Really Are…

Those things are all great, and DPK Graphic Design does stand by all of those things, but I am also other things too like super organized, honest,  crazy good multi-tasker, approachable, positive, willing to get my hands dirty, willing to admit mistakes, and so much more.   But I don’t think you want me to go on and on about all that.  LOL  At least you know the basics.

First of all, DPK Graphic Design is not just ME and MY business.  Yes, I am the business owner and chief designer, but I also have a team of people under me who take care of a lot of different things.  They are all good at what they do which frees me up to allow me to do more of what I am good at.  I love how that works!


How We Got Started

I started DPK Graphic Design back in 2008 kinda by accident.  I was running a New York based decorative painting business called Surfaces with Paint.  You can check out my painting work there if you would like, but be warned that it is an old html site that I have not gotten around to updating in a LONG time.  Anyway, I specialized in baby nursery murals and decorative paint finishes for high end homes here in NY.  But after getting married and having a couple kids, I found that I was not able to get out and paint as much as I used to.  So I started a Virtual Assistant business and took on clients here and there to fill in for the days that I wasn’t painting.

I had some website and graphic design experience so one of my clients had hired me  to re-vamp several of their websites using WordPress.  Being an artist and lover of color and design, I realized that I was in my element and I found something that I absolutely loved to do.

I decided to follow my passion and began promoting my new graphic design business on some of my favorite social networking sites  like Twitter, Facebook, and LinkedIn, and in a short period of time, DPK Graphic Design became a HUGE SUCCESS!  My tagline tells it all… “A Passion and Eye for Design” and that is definitely me.  I am the type of person who is extremely passionate about almost anything in life, especially the little things.  And I am still amazed everyday when a new client emails me looking to hire me to work with them.  What a blessing!


Why Hire DPK Graphic Design

I really do give my all and anyone who knows me – knows that.  I will do whatever it takes to make my clients happy and to create something for them that they love, because I would want the same done for me.

In my previous bio, it said…

“Dawn is always on the cutting edge in the internet world, meeting people and building online relationships to further educate herself and her clients. She can easily provide the professional quality work you require to represent your business in a positive way.”

Totally boring, right?  LOL

I am definitely on the cutting edge, but I am also a mother of FOUR small children so I can’t always do EVERYTHING.  Sometimes I THINK I can, but I think the important thing about being a mom and a business owner is having BALANCE and keeping the focus where it needs to be

If you are looking for a designer who has a bunch of degrees or 30+ years experience, that is definitely not me ( will get there someday though!).  I may not be able to do all the fancy shmancy stuff, but I am still very capable and confident in the quality of work that I provide for my clients.  You can see that for yourself in my extensive graphic & website design portfolios.
